Running is being good to me...

First of all, I would like to say HELLO to my new followers!

Welcome, and thanks for wanting to read my ramblings and look at pretty pictures of where I live.
You can also find me on Instagram, MyFitnessPal, and Pinterest @smithserrano.
I definitely would love more friends on MFP [you all help keep me accountable]!

Yesterday, Mel and I hosted a fantabulous linkup on running shoes. I have to say, I am really happy with how successful it was, and the amount of information I learned from reading every single post! LOVED it. Thank you to everyone who participated!
I'm pretty confident I will be buying me some Brooks shoes in the next couple of days!

I am going to visit Dick's Sporting Goods a few towns over, because I know they have a treadmill there, and they can analyze my run. Yeah...running in the store scares me, with the thought of someone watching me run [ehh], but I'm gonna do what I NEED to do in order to find the right shoes!

I'm feeling really good about getting back in the groove of working out and eating healthy.
My kids just went back to school yesterday, so my Holiday finally came to an end, and it feels great!
I am a routine junky through and through - I need a schedule and consistency to be successful!
Any breaks in school or holidays completely throw me off track.

I also ran my furthest distance Tuesday! We have such a beautiful bike path here along the coast that stretches for miles and miles, I decided to finally run on it with Cody.
Before I knew it, I was at 3 miles!
I was sort of bummed though because I was so busy looking at the scenery that I lost track of time, and my pace was kinda slower than normal. I knew I had to turn around and head back, because I didn't want to push my knee too much. [I have no clue what I did, but it's been sore for a couple weeks now].

Cody was totally freaked out by the bicyclists that would pass him, he'd yelp and jump into my side. Homeboy is such a wimp...you'd never know it though because he has one mean bark and he's huge! That's why I run with him, he's like my decoy that says stay away from me or he'll attack you!
Am I the only one who is a paranoid person about running outdoors and having bad things happen to me?! I'm always on such high alert because of this fear.

Here are some photos from my run...there's so much to look at on this section of the path. Next time I'll start at another section and go from that point! I'll give you all a tour of the coast through my running eventually!

Starting out, past the old train stops off Del Monte.

Headed back. After 8 years of living here, I still haven't kayaked in this bay. Boo.

Along side an off ramp. While running by, I couldn't help but pray a car didn't hit the side rail and fly off down onto the bike path. [See? Paranoid Patty here].

I thought I'd be like SR and get a diet coke after my run, and that turned into a side salad and a side grilled chicken sandwich. LOL. But I took off the bun, and it was plain. So it all worked out calorie wise. That diet coke however? not so much. My stomach cramped as soon as that chemical acetone hit my insides. Never again. For awhile. ;)

Until next time! Hope you're all having a great week!

  1. Oh, I feel you on that fear...I'm Paranoid Patty AND Pansy Polly all in one!
There's a trail seriously 5 minutes walking distance from my house that goes on for miles and miles (but totally wooded...not the awesome scenery you showed us here!) I used to run that, no problem. But all of a sudden, fear took over me so I run around my neighborhood now. Damn crazy people be getting us all scurred. :(

But yay for getting fitted (highly recommend!!) and to some new running shoes! It makes a world of difference!

  3. GREAT JOB on your new longest distance! You are improving so quickly!

I ran with Cosmo this morning and at one point he got spooked by absolutely nothing and rammed into the back of my legs. I almost ate the pavement, and I'm sure a few of my neighbors heard the swears that came from my mouth. :) But I'm like you--I find running with a dog comforting (even though Cosmo isn't nearly as big as Cutie Cody), so I take him and deal with it when he spazzes out!

  7. I am so paranoid, too! And I don't have a big ol' dog to take w/ me for protection. Glad you co-hosted the link up, it was fun and I am definitely looking into some Brooks after my pregnancy. Happy Wednesday!

  8. What a beautiful place to live!!
Yeah, I'm pretty paranoid too! My dad bought me bear spray to use while running, but it expolded in my car and I got it in my eyes and mouth. Fail!!!
